The Biden Presidency Edges Closer as Bernie Sanders Fights for Stimulus

One hundred and forty Republican House Members plan on protesting the election results and go against the people’s will to elect Joe Biden as the next president of the U.S.A. Trump has been energizing the Republican party as he released tweets asking Congress to investigate voter fraud claims. State and Federal judges have already dismissed over 60 of Trump’s lawsuits.

Conservatives like to vote in person; they were willing to stand in long lines and cast their ballots during the general election. Most Democrats mailed ballots. Trump claims that most of those votes are invalid since a person could have sent in multiple votes, and some states did not check signatures. Deceased and incarcerated people voted. Presently, Trump now proclaims he has evidence.

Certifying the Electoral Vote

Vice-President Mike Pence is walking a tightrope by pleasing President Trump and disregarding the will of the people. Pence responds to the lawsuit, saying he does not have the authority to go against the electoral college.

Texas lawmaker Gohmert does not want Vice-President Pence to declare that Joe Biden is the future president of the United States either. He says that Pence has the “exclusive authority and sole discretion to open and permit the counting of the electoral votes for a given state.” A Biden victory would be considered unconstitutional.

Pence hopes the court will dismiss the case, stating that the lawsuit is directed towards the wrong defendant.

$2,000 Stimulus Checks in Limbo

One thing the Democrats could agree with President Trump on was the robust $2,000 per person stimulus package. Trump not only wanted $2,000 per adult, but each dependent child would receive $2,000. A family of five could receive $10,000, which is enough to get caught up on late rent or buy a new car.

Most Americans have received the $600 per person stimulus checks direct deposited to their bank accounts this week. Even though it was a nice gesture, it is merely not enough since many Americans have been using their credit cards to cover past due bills.

There are miles-long lines at food banks in several major metropolitan areas, and millions of people are unemployed. The nation has lost one year of job growth.

Lost Leverage

The nation watched in shock as Trump immediately declined to sign the 5,600-page pandemic recovery and omnibus spending bill that was emboldened and then sent to the winter White House at the Mar-a-Lago resort.

Under the prodding of Republican friends with meetings on the Mar-a-Lago golf course, Trump signed the bill, but he lost leverage to get more stimulus into the economy. The GOP promised a valid vote, but most people knew that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would jeopardize the proposal, calling it socialism for wealthy Democrats, which happens to be a dichotomy.

Political Demands

Trump is using every avenue possible to hold on to power. He ditched his guests at the New Year’s Eve party at the Mar-a-Lago resort with over 500 paying guests eager to see him. Each ticket typically costs $1,000 per person.

You can imagine the sadness on people’s faces when they discovered that Trump would not be attending the annual event as Vanilla Ice and Rudolf Giuliani were entertaining them.

Upon his arrival at the White House, Trump had other political demands besides the family stimulus checks. Trump wanted legal protections for Big Technology companies removed, confederate names for statutes and military bases protected, and a tribunal to investigate election fraud.

Trump did not get his way with the Defense Authorization Act because both houses of Congress decided to overturn Trump’s veto.

He does not want his fellow Republican congressmen to certify the electoral college vote but rather oppose it. These requests come quite late since Trump only has 20 days left in office.

Obstructionism

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel sought to obstruct the package to bring the president’s wishes to the Senate’s floor. The House overwhelmingly approved the stimulus package, but McConnell knew that Democrats would never agree to a council to investigate voter fraud and a reversal of section 230 liability protections for Facebook and Twitter. Twitter has been flagging Trump’s posts as possibly misleading and incorrect.

Instead, McConnell is joining three separate bills into one extensive legislation to prevent an up or down vote in the Senate. Since Trump’s tweets, several Republicans had changed their mind and wanted to give the nation’s citizens more stimulus.

However, Trump had plenty of months to request and negotiate the $2,000 stimulus checks; he is possibly fundraising for his political action committees when his term has expired.

The New Congress

The new Congress will take their oaths on Sunday. What everyone is watching is the senate run-off election in Georgia on January 5, 2021. Democrats must win both seats to pass larger stimulus packages during the Biden administration and demote Mitch McConnell’s Senate leadership.

At first, the Republican incumbents, Perdue and Loeffler, were against Federal stimulus checks. Now that they are losing in the polls, the senators have agreed to President Trump’s demands for $2,000 stimulus checks. The U.S.A. is now in the waiting sphere on the future of economic vitality.
