Trump Triggers Political Self-Quarantine for the Economic Pandemic Fallout

America is at war against the attack of the invisible enemy — the coronavirus. And of course, the Republican Administration declined to take the necessary precautions to prevent the escalation of infections and deaths that are sweeping across the 50 states, with Virginia being the last state to report a case of the coronavirus.

President Trump thought that the coronavirus would be a flight by night venture with a probable case decline by mid-spring. Supposedly, warmer weather would kill the coronavirus. Trump said at a February campaign rally, “Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”

By March, the CDC was recommending that social distancing and public health protocols be put in place to stop the spread of the virus. As far as the senior health officials know, the coronavirus can attack the American people in waves that may last up to the next 18 months.

Makeshift Hospital Tents in Italy

Italian health officials wished they had put in new public safety protocols like social distancing and the early pervasive use of public disinfectants. Coronavirus cases have exploded in Europe. Italy has become the new China with the latest death toll exceeding over 400 in one day. Due to the lack of space and public safety concerns, medical officials are cremating the dead instead of the family members having a traditional funeral.

Coronavirus sufferers first report having mild cold symptoms. Afterward, you have a dry cough with flu-like symptoms, and then you get better. Finally, pneumonia attacks your lungs, and you cannot breathe.

And what is even more devastating, ventilators that are needed to make a patient well in the absence of a vaccine is in short supply. There are not enough ventilators, and the Italian doctors have to make a decision on which patients will receive life-saving breathing treatments.

America Ill-Prepared for a Pandemic

The same goes for the USA. Ventilators across the nation are in short supply, and cases of the coronavirus are rising daily. Warehouses only have about three weeks’ worth of PPE — protective equipment for doctors and nurses inside the hospital.

Trump is declining at this time to activate his warlike powers to compel American factories to produce extra coronavirus tests, protective gear, and ventilators.

Out of necessity, nobody could ever believe in their “wildest dreams” that the nation would ever need untold thousands of ventilators, Trump reiterated. And again, it is all the fault of the Democratic governors. Trump tweeted that “failing Michigan Governor must work harder and be much more proactive” to provide for the needs of his state.

Howbeit, Trump, along with the American public health officials, should have foreseen the necessity for additional medical equipment to treat the barrage of COVID-19 pneumonia patients. Trump failed to understand that it is a marriage of circumstances for the Federal and State governments to provide collaboratively for the American people in times of crisis.

Few Coronavirus Tests

A reporter asked Trump in late January if he was concerned about the coronavirus. Trump said, “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine.” Trump went on to say at a Michigan campaign rally, “We have it very well under control. We have very little problem in this country at this moment — five. And those people are all recuperating successfully.”

Unfortunately, Vice President Mike Pence had to inform the American public that there were not enough coronavirus tests available for all the sick and the elderly. One reporter questioned President Trump during a press conference that it seems like the well-connected get first access to coronavirus tests while the truly ill have to wait. Trump fumbled his words and didn’t give the reporter a direct answer.

Amid the pandemic, Trump wants to blame China by calling the coronavirus the Wuhan virus, since China refused to advise the world that there was an outbreak of a contagious disease that commenced during the first signs of winter.

The Economic Stimulus Package

In the conclusion of the matter, the warning signals were all but ignored and USA is not fully prepared to handle a pandemic like the coronavirus. At least the Republicans are presenting the House with a $1 trillion rescue package that includes $1,200 checks to American Taxpayers who make less than $75,000 per year that may be called the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. The package will give Americans with substantial incomes less aid with an income cap for benefits at $100,000.

Senator Richard Shelby disputed the aid, saying that Americans who have jobs don’t need assistance. Meanwhile, retirement and brokerage accounts have lost half their value, and the DOW Industrial Average is at the same level as when Trump first took the presidential oath for office. GDP may contract 14% this year as the nation heads towards a deep recession.

The emergency economic aid proposal is a start. “We are beginning to review Senator McConnell’s proposal, and on first reading, it is not at all pro-worker and instead puts corporations way ahead of workers,” per Nancy Pelosi. Corporations and businesses will get loans that may covert over to grants. The airline industry will get holdover loans to account for the massive losses in the travel industry. Unemployed workers will have access to jobless benefits.
