The Republican Convention Will Be the Start of Self-Sabotage Season

With Joe Biden about to accept the Democratic nomination for President, the Democrats have largely done what they need to with their own convention. They have presented their own vision for America that showcases the diversity of the country. The Democrats have given the country a blueprint for what they will do in office. Now, the Democrats need to move out of the way and let the GOP self-destruct at their own convention. Once Labor Day passes, further events will be even more devastating for the Republicans. As a result, the Democrats need to focus on getting their own vote out and not trying to go toe-to-toe with Donald Trump.

The GOP'S Hate Fest Will Alienate the Few Undecided Voters

Up until a few weeks ago, everyone thought that Donald Trump's ego would force an indoor convention along the same lines as their COVID-19 superspreader event in Tulsa. However, eve Trump bowed to reality. The result was that the Republicans now have weeks to scramble to put together a virtual convention that the Democrats spent months building. Faced with that dilemma, the GOP does what it always done when lacking for a better answer; it turns to hate.

There will be no better contrast between the two parties than their two conventions being days apart. The Democrats' hopeful vision will be immediately countered by the shrill bigotry of the Republican Party. This is evidenced by the lineup of speakers who the GOP has lined up to grace their convention. The roster is aimed at their hard-core base and features such luminaries as the Missouri couple who pointed weapons at Black Lives Matter protestors.

It is likely that the Republican National Convention will be a glitch-filled affair focused on the ego of one man. COVID-19 will likely be an afterthought if it is even mentioned at all. Against that backdrop, the Democrats should not even focus on the rapid response that most parties deploy during the opposing party's convention. They should just get out of the way and let the split-screen visual speak for itself.

Two Blockbuster Books Are On the Way and Will Dominate the Headlines

After the GOP Convention, further events will be even more unkind to Donald Trump. In the past, people tend to tune out between the parties' conventions and Labor Day. This year, the minute that people start focusing on the presidential race in earnest, they will be greeted by a pair of bombshell books about Donald Trump.

The day after Labor Day, Michael Cohen's book will hit the shelves. While many books have made a brief ripple, this book may have the biggest impact of all of them. This is because the average voter struggles to understand the nuances of the Trump scandals. Cohen's book will tell stories in terms where practically every voter can understand what he is saying. Plus, as Trump's fixer, Cohen understands the reality show dynamic. His book will play to it and will be as sensationalized as they come.

Next up, one week after that, is Bob Woodward's book. This will be the first tome that have inside stories about the unmitigated disaster that was the Trump Administration's response to COVID-19. There will be stories of particular briefings where Trump was warned about the pandemic and direct quotes from Trump dismissing the severity of coronavirus. His rank incompetence will be on full display at a time when people are starting to pay close attention to the presidential race.

The firestorm from the books is sure to provoke an epic response from Trump. He will try to distract and deflect by stirring up controversy. When this happens, Trump tends to overreach and get himself in even more trouble with the voters.

As a result, Biden needs to continue the masterful strategy that he has used so far of not trying to compete with Trump for airtime. Biden has given Trump the rope necessary he needs to hang himself. While Biden should still be campaigning, he should focus his efforts on getting out the vote and preparing for the first debate with Donald Trump. By the time that these two books stop dominating the news cycle, there will be only a week before the first debate, where Biden will be waiting for Trump with lowered expectations. Donald Trump can and will beat himself. Joe Biden should do nothing to get in the way of that.
